Padma Bhushan conferred on Mrs. Rajashree Birla
The Government of India will bestow the Padma Bhushan award on Mrs. Rajashree Birla for her exemplary contribution in the area of social work.
The Padma Bhushan is among the highest civilian awards in the Republic of India. Instituted in 1954 by the President of India, it recognises "distinguished service of a very high order to the nation in specific fields".
Mrs. Birla is regarded as an icon in the CSR domain, and is a role model for all of us in India and beyond. Mrs. Birla through her visionary leadership has made a difference to the lives of millions.
This coveted award will be conferred at a special ceremony in March 2011, where Mrs. Birla will be honoured by the President of India in the presence of the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
