Alexandria
Carbon Black Company SAE (ACB), an Indo-Egyptian joint
venture of the Aditya Birla Group, is the only producer
of carbon black in the Middle East and North African
region. Established in 1994 with an initial capacity
of 20,000tpa, the company has since grown 14 times
to 285,000tpa capacity, making it the world’s
largest carbon black plant at a single location
and the fastest-growing carbon black company in
the world. ACB also has the distinction of operating
the largest production line in the carbon black
industry globally.
In
less than 15 years of its going on-stream, the
company has set new benchmarks by maintaining
high standards and taking a leadership position
in the industries of Egypt, Middle East and North
Africa. The company is accredited with ISO-TS
16949, QS-9000 quality certification, ISO 14001
environment certification, OHSAS 18001 for occupational
health and safety standards, SA 8000 accreditation
for social accountability, the TPM excellence
award and the special award for TPM achievement
from JIPM, Japan.
ACB
has been a recipient of the International Safety
Award by the British Safety Council for nine successive
years and was ranked among the world’s five
best environment-friendly companies by the International
Finance Corporation, from among the companies
financed by IFC. The company has the unique distinction
of having its methodology under the Clean Development
Mechanism approved by the United Nations Framework
Convention on climate change.
The
company exports 95 per cent of its produce to
over 30 countries across the globe including the
US, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, among
others. The company’s customer list includes
global players such as Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone /
Firestone, Pirelli, Dunlop and Continental General
Tyres apart from the local Alexandria Tire Company
and Trenco.
It
has established decanting stations in the UK,
Belgium and Spain to service European customers
on JIT basis and provide customer service comparable
to the local manufacturers. It has also developed
an IT-based multi-nodal supply chain delivering
carbon black from Alexandria to customers’
manufacturing locations in Europe, the Americas,
Africa and Asia.
