Fiber Co., SAE (AFCO) is an Indo-Egyptian joint
venture of the Aditya Birla Group. With the Group’s
excellent track record in the acrylic fibre industry
in Asia through its presence in Thailand, AFCO represents
an extension of this business in the Middle East,
Africa and European regions.
The
plant has been set up with technology from Japan
Exlan Company Limited, and basic engineering and
equipment has been supplied by Kawasaki Heavy
Industries Limited, Japan. The unit caters to
the large domestic market in Egypt apart from
catering to over 23 countries in the Middle East,
Africa and Europe.
Commercial
production commenced in February 2006 with the
first phase of operations designed to produce
18,000mt per annum of raw white and gel dyed
acrylic tow, tops and fibre for sweaters, blankets,
carpets, knitwear, hosiery products, automotive
textiles, furnishings and various industrial applications.
AFCO is currently implementing its second phase
which will increase the plant capacity to 58,000
tonnes by 2010.
The
expansion at AFCO is going on full steam which
will catapult AFCO into one of the leading producers
of acrylic fibre in the world and the only one
of its type in the entire MENA (Middle East and
North Africa) region. As opposed to Thai Acrylic
Fibre Company, AFCO produces coloured fibre carving
a niche for itself in the acrylic fibre industry.
